Friendship between Two Communities.

Gift from Heaven!
This year a range of secondary and tertiary scholarships is being planned for students from Viqueque. A $2700 commitment has been made to students attending the Catholic Institute of the Formation of Teachers Baucau for two major scholarship and four minor scholarships.

Margie Beck, Deputy Director emailed her response to this news: “Dear Tricia (Treasurer) - you are wonderful! This is so generous of you (and Geelong Viqueque Friendship Schools of course!) I am feeling a bit weepy after reading your email..... Much of my time is spent trying to find support for the students, so this is like a gift from heaven for 6 of them. I know they will be overjoyed when they find out later today.”
Books for East Timor Schools
A wind fall
The Australian East Timor Association received a large donation of English [ESL] books as a result of the closure of a bookstore. A careful selection has been made from them that will be most suitable for both primary and secondary students in Viqueque. Estimated value is $15,000 plus. The best part is that there are multiple copies 30- 60 plus of the same titles so this is an amazing win. Rotary will wrap seal the palettes and
transport to Dili for $600 approx. with additional cost to transport to Viqueque and Ossu. As students do not have textbooks the inclusion of these books into schools will greatly assist their learning of English

East Timorese Principals and Teachers from Viqueque Visit Geelong.
The 21 day inaugural professional development program held in Geelong was an amazing experience for the seven Viqueque principals and teachers. The main host for the event was Kardinia International College where the program ran for nine full days. Rob Blackley coordinated the four days at St Joseph's College, with half days held at Torquay College, Sacred Heart College, Clonard College, Geelong College Prep and Christian College. A one day visit to the East Geelong campus of the Gordon Institute completed the program venues.

A visit to Geelong High school resulted in it seeking membership
of Geelong Viqueque Friendship Schools and they will partner
 Mundo Perdido - Ossu.
